Website analytics is becoming more and more important for the growth of businesses.
Business owners have always wondered and hesitated to invest in marketing programs by questioning how campaigns are doing and which deserve more support and investment.
Web analytics removes guesswork for business owners. The analytics provide very insightful information such as: site visitor behaviours, consumer demographic, how they are landing on the site, the most clicked and popular content on the site and more. This data allows business owners to formulate effective digital marketing strategies to help grow the business.
But why has it become increasingly important?
The internet has made information hugely accessible and easy for consumers to do their own research on businesses’ products and services. Changes in market behaviour are ongoingly apparent for businesses, consumers are engaging through forums, social media or blogs and information and opinions help to shape this. With this, consumer demands, tastes and preferences are continuously changing. As a business owner, having these analytics and data trends is very helpful in staying on top of the market. This helps to plan campaigns accordingly to satisfy new online consumer behaviour, such as appropriate content published and capitalising on popular trends.
Google Analytics is currently one of the most popular digital analytics software. By providing important information, statistics and data to maximise website performance through a free service, free of charge. These resources are accessible to anyone and everyone to take advantage of in the market, clearly linking to why website analytics is becoming more apparent in digital marketing.
More importantly, how else are we supposed to know which campaigns are effective and which aren’t?
In the past, we had to obtain data from campaigns and manually analyse and crunch these analytics into useful information, mainly companies who could afford to hire someone to do that for them. But nowadays, everything has become simplified and anyone is able to access these resources and generate useful analytics.
Websites hold unique content channels like social media, blogs, forums and online publications. You may want to focus on posting blogs or video content to attract a new audience, however not all of them will yield the same result. Some may be counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve from your website.
Website analytics provide insights in which channels are working well to achieve your goals and which ones are not. Hence, your digital marketing strategy can be customised thoroughly to work well with new demographics.
Essentially, by utilising marketing analytics in the decision-making process of digital marketing strategies, you are not making educated guesses but instead making educated decisions.
Just a question for my readers:
In your opinion, how important do you find website data and analytical information to be?

G’day Michael Yi. Great blog, it’s so interesting to see how marketing has changed throughout the years as the digital world is growing so fast and new opportunities are constantly appearing for marketers everyday. Thanks for the support on the blogs Matthew. It is kind of weird watching the digital world develop as fast as it is currently, however I believe that it does have good and bad aspects to it. Well I’m not here to dwell onto those aspects, I’m glad that the technological dominant marketing strategies have pushed us to become more innovative and unique. As everyone is able to access the same resources online, those who are able to generate new and innovative ideas tend to be successful. As marketing analytics being the forefront of measuring the success of these ideas.

Very interesting thoughts Michael! In my opinion website, data and analytical information are the keys to improving a business’s success and leveraging off them to provide positive gains. We’re extremely lucky for Google to provide a free analytical service, who would’ve thought small businesses can have amazing data and insights which could potentially make Google millions. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comment Edward. I believe that these freemium type services are the way to go. Google Analytics is providing so much value to its users through free use, with incentives to purchase more benefits through a premium edition. With this, businesses are only incurring a small expense relative to the potential return on investment that this service provides.

True! Freemium service seems like the way to go. A method of drawing customers in to buy the full product.

Freemium services are quite similar to trying a product or service before we purchase it, as it gives us, consumers, a perspective and judgement on the product/service before purchase. Which assists in our overall decision-making of purchasing position.
